The Area Agency on Aging, a division of the Southeast Arizona Governments Organization (SEAGO) is currently recruiting for volunteers in the Long-Term Ombudsman program in the Sierra Vista, Douglas, and Bisbee communities. Volunteers make regular visits to long-term care facilities and assisted living programs to advocate for the needs of the elderly. This is a great opportunity for retired people with backgrounds in nursing, pastoral care, education, or social services to remain involved in the community and to make a real difference in the lives of the elderly or dependant adult population. Long-Term Care Ombudsmen volunteers can have a direct, positive impact on the quality of care that residents experience, and provide an effective, powerful voice for an often-overlooked population.
Training and orientation is free, and volunteers are reimbursed for all travel expenses incurred in their visits. Volunteers need to have their own transportation, and will normally spend 5 - 10 hours per month visiting their assigned facilities. Background checks will be conducted on all applicants, and a negative TB test is necessary.
For further information, please contact Maggie McQuaid, Long-Term Care Ombudsman Coordinator at 432-5301, ext. 206, in Bisbee.
